coasterReanalysisOverview

Coaster Reanalysis is a fully automated way to track, analyse, catalogue and re-live your roller coaster adventures.

Using 4D variational data assimilation methods developed in the atmospheric physics and climate modelling community, along with machine learning techniques, measurements from multiple phone sensors are fused to re-create the ride experience and other roller coaster statistics. All you need to do is place your phone securely in your pocket just before you board, and enjoy the ride. As soon as you disembark, you can then explore elaborate track recreations, detailed statistics and a complete semantic analysis of the ride experience.

Here are some example reanalysis outputs from our algorithm. These are based on real sensor measurements recorded on an iPhone with our prototype application. If these are viewed on a mobile device with a camera, you may experience and explore each of these models in an augmented reality environment.

Python, Efteling, Netherlands

X-treme Racers, Legoland, Billund

Baron 1898, Efteling, Netherlands

Goliath, Walibi Holland, Netherlands

Lost Gravity, Walibi Holland, Netherlands

The Dragon, Ocean Park, Hong Kong

As your catalogue of roller coaster tracks and credits is built up, lifetime statistics enable you to finally answer questions like “Which is the fastest coaster I’ve ever been on?“, “What is the greatest G force I have experienced on a coaster?” or “How much total time have I spent hanging up-side-down on a ride?”.
